Otto the Owl – Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn/wool: I have used Catania yarn from Schachenmayr in brown (0383 < 50g), dark brown (0157 < 50g), light brown (0179 < 50g), white (0106 < 50g) and green (0212 < 50g) color.
  • Crochet hook: 3.0 mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Filling
  • Scissors
  • Two 6 mm black safety eyes

Important Notes

  • All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral (except eyelids, wings and tail). Do not join or turn, unless instructed otherwise
  • You may find it useful to use a stitchmarker for counting your rounds
  • Take your time to create your amigurumi’s face, it is a very important part of the final result
  • While stuffing take care to give each part a nice shape

Close the hole by leading the thread through the 6 stitches of last round, pull it tight and hide the yarn tail in the body.

Leave a long yarn tail for sewing it to the head.

Eyelids with brown yarn (make 2):

Eyelids are crocheted in rows.

slst around. FO. Leave a long yarn tail for sewing it to the head.

Insert the 6mm black safety eyes into the eyeballs (see pictures above). With invisible stitches sew the eyes to the head. For the exact places see the pictures below. Stuff the eyes softly with a small amount of filling while sewing. Sew the eyelids onto the eyeballs.

Beak

With dark brown yarn:

Wings and tail

With dark brown yarn (make 3)

Wings are crocheted in rows. Please follow exactly the following instructions!

Round 1.  ch 6                                                                                                                                (6)

Round 2.  Starting from the 2nd stitch from hook: slst, sc, hdc, dc, 6 tr in
last stitch. Continue on the other side of beginning ch: dc, hdc, sc, slst       (10)

Leave a long yarn tail and with invisible stitches sew them to the body. See the exact place and position on the pictures above.

Ears

Cut 10 cm long strands from the dark brown yarn (I’ve used 3 pieces per ear). Select the place on the head where you want to position the ear and pull one end of the strands through the stitches. Take the yarn strand on the hook and pull one end of it through the holes. Make a knot as close to the head as it is possible.

Cut the ears to the proper length.

Talons

Feet with dark brown yarn (make 2).

Talons (make 2):

Round 1.  3 sc in double adjustable ring                                                                       (3)

Repeat 2 times until you have 2 talons. Fasten off and weave in the yarn ends on the first talon. Do not fasten off on the second talon, but continue working on it:

Cut the yarn and weave the yarn tail into the hat. Place the hat on the head and pull the ears through the holes created in Round 21.
