Glacier Gerry – Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn/wool: I have used Catania yarn from Schachenmayr in blue (0261 < 50g), beige (0263 < 50g), light blue (0247 < 50g), grey (0393 < 50g), white (0106 < 50g) and light brown (0179 < 50 g) color.
  • Crochet hook: 3.0 mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Filling
  • Scissors
  • Two 6 mm black safety eyes
  • 60 cm of thin wire (diameter: 1 mm) for the skis
  • 18 cm of single core copper PVC-coated electrical wire (diameter: 1,5 mm) for the ski poles

Important Notes

  • All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral (except skis, scarf and hat). Do not join or turn, unless instructed otherwise
  • You may find it useful to use a stitchmarker for counting your rounds
  • While stuffing take care to give each part a nice shape

Size of finished figure

Glacier Gerry will be approximately 12 cm tall.

Start stuffing the body and keep on stuffing while crocheting.

Close the hole by leading the thread through the front loops of last round, pull it tight and weave the yarn tail into the head.

Nose

Eyes

Eyeballs with white yarn (make 2):

slst in next stitch, FO. Leave a long yarn tail for sewing it to the head.

Insert the black safety eyes into the eyeballs (see pictures above). Sew the eyes with invisible stitches to the body/head. Try to attach them very close to each other. For the exact place see the pictures below. Eyes do not need to be stuffed.

Shoes

With grey yarn (make 2):

Stuff the toe cap softly. The rest of the shoe does not need to be stuffed.

FO. Close the hole by leading the thread through the front loops of last round, pull it tight and leave a long yarn tail. Sew the shoes with invisible stitches to the body. If you’d like to make Gerry with skis, sew the two feet parallel to each other to the body, otherwise sew the feet perpendicularly. See pictures for exact place and position.

Arms

FO. Cut the yarn and weave the yarn tail into the hat. Make a small pompom and sew it to the top of the hat.

The scarf is crocheted in rows.

With light blue yarn:

Cut the yarn and weave the yarn tail into the scarf.

Put on the scarf and hat, fix their position with a few invisible stitches. See pictures below.

Skis

Skis are crocheted in rows.

With light brown yarn (make 2):

Cut a piece of thin wire. In my case it was approximately 60 cm long. Keep the size of the hook and the gauge of the yarn you are using in mind. Form a frame for the ski. It should fit exactly around the ski (see pictures above). Fix it with rubber tape. Crochet all around the ski with sc stitches enclosing the wire.

FO. Cut the yarn, weave the yarn tail into the ski. Sew it with invisible stitches to the shoe.

Cut two pieces of electrical wire (approximately 9 cm long), lead them carefully through the hands.
