Spike the Sparrow – Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
Materials
- Yarn/wool: I have used Catania yarn from Schachenmayr in grey (0393 < 50g), yellow (0208 < 50g), white (0106 < 50g) and light green (0392 < 50 g) color.
- Crochet hook: 3.0 mm
- Tapestry needle
- Filling
- Two 6 mm black safety eyes
Abbreviations
- St(s) – stitch(es)
- Ch – chain
- Sc – single crochet
- Hdc – halb double crochet
- Slst – slip stitch
- Inc – increase (2 sc in next st)
- Dec – decrease (2 sc worked off together)
- Hdcinc- halb double crochet increase (2 hdc in next st)
- Fpsc – front post single crochet
- (nr) – indicates the total number of stitches in the current row/round
- FO – fasten off
Important Notes
- All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral (except feet, wings, curls and hat). Do not join or turn, unless instructed otherwise
- You may find it useful to use a stitchmarker for counting your rounds
- While stuffing take care to give each part a nice shape
Size of finished figure
Spike the Sparrow will be approximately 6 cm and with his hat 10 cm tall.

With grey yarn:

Start stuffing the body and keep on stuffing while crocheting.

Close the hole by leading the thread through the front loops of last round, pull it tight and weave the yarn tail into the head.
Beak
With yellow yarn:
Round 1. 3 sc in double adjustable ring (3)

Round 5. sc* (9)
slst in next stitch. FO. Leave a long yarn tail and sew it with invisible stitches to the head. See pictures for exact place and position.
Eyes
Eyeballs with white Catania yarn (make 2):
Round 1. 8 sc in double adjustable ring (8)
Round 2. – Round 3. sc* (8)
slst in next stitch, FO. Leave a long yarn tail for sewing it to the head.
Insert the black safety eyes into the eyeballs (see pictures above). Sew the eyes with invisible stitches to the body/head. For the exact place see the pictures below. Eyes do not need to be stuffed.
Feet and Legs
Feet with yellow yarn (make two):
Feet are crocheted in rows.
Row 1. ch 7 (7)
Row 2. starting at 2nd chain from hook: sc, 2 slst (3)
Row 3. ch 4 (4)
Row 4. starting at 2nd chain from hook: sc, 2 slst, continue into the next stitches of
the starting foundation chain: 2 slst, sc (6)
FO and leave a long yarn tail for sewing it to the leg later on.
Legs with yellow yarn (make two):
Legs are crocheted in rows.
Row 1. ch 5 (5)
Row 2. starting at 2nd chain from hook: 4 sc (4)
Leave a long yarn tail for sewing it to the body.
Sew the foot to the leg using the yarn tail left on the foot as you see on the picture above. Weave the yarn tail into the leg.
Sew the legs with invisible stitches to the body. See exact place and position on the pictures below.
Wings
With grey yarn (make 2):
Wings are crocheted in rows. Please, follow exactly the following instructions!
Row 1. ch 5 (5)
Row 2. Starting from the 2nd stitch from hook: slst, sc, hdc, 4 dc in last stitch.
Continue on the other side of beginning ch: hdc, sc, slst (10)
Leave a long yarn tail and sew it with invisible stitches to the body. See the exact place and position on the pictures below.
Curls
With grey yarn:
Curls are crocheted in rows.
Row 1. ch 4 (4)
Row 2. starting at 2nd chain from hook: 3 slst (3)
Row 3. ch 5 (5)
Row 4. starting at 2nd chain from hook: 4 slst (4)
Leave a long yarn tail and sew them with invisible stitches to the head. See the exact place and position on the picture below.
Hat
With light green yarn:
Round 1. 9 hdc in double adjustable ring, JOIN (9)
Round 2. ch, (2 hdc, hdcinc) 3-times, JOIN (12)
Round 3. ch, (3 hdc, hdcinc) 3-times, JOIN (15)
Round 4. ch, (4 hdc, hdcinc) 3-times, JOIN (18)
Round 5. ch, (2 hdc, hdcinc) 6-times, JOIN (24)
Round 6. ch, (3 hdc, hdcinc) 3-times, JOIN (30)
Round 7. ch, hdc*, JOIN (30)

Cut the yarn and weave the yarn tail into the hat. Fold the last 3 rounds back. Make a small pompom and sew it to the top of the hat.
